THE PATH TOWARDS AGARWOOD FORMATION
Overall Rating
1.INFLORESCENCE OF AQUILARIA SPECIES
Aquilaria malaccensis produces seeds after 7–9 years while some other species produce seeds only once in their life cycle. The flowering and fruiting of Aquilaria species usually occur between May to August of the year.

2.RECALCITRANT SEEDS OF AQUILARIA SPECIES
Aquilaria fruit produces one to two seeds in a capsule, which are very sensitive to desiccation. These seeds have short viability period of 7-10 days.

3.GERMINATION OF AQUILARIA SEEDS
Seedlings of the species should first be germinated in sand beds, before being carefully transplanted to polythene bags, supported by bamboo poles and kept under temporary shade.

4.TRANSPLANTED AQUILARIA SAPLINGS
Young saplings from six months old onwards are transferred onto plantation, usually in a spacing of 2m x 6m, and are attentively taken care of.

5.NATURAL FORMATION OF RESIN IN HEARTWOOD OF AGARWOOD TREES
In the third year, Agarwood saplings is capable for resin formation within its network of Phloem and Parenchyma. Once fungal infection takes hold on trees of the Aquilaria genus, the tree will responses and interacts, producing protective resin which saturates the heartwood and roots, forming Agarwood.

6.ARTIFICIAL INOCULATION METHODS
Resin synthesis via natural maturation may take a longer period to form, with only 1% of wild Aquilaria trees containing resinous Agarwood substance. However, advance technological know-how with safe and effective artificial inoculation methods, such as wounding and fungal infection; have been successfully proven inducing and expediting resin synthesis.

7.FORMATION OF RESIN IN HEARTWOOD OF AQUILARIA TREES
It is rarely for Agarwood-producing tree developing identical scent, thus instituting Agarwood its most- valued quirk. Instead of an easily replicated, monotonous aroma, the different living condition, bacterial and fungal interactions with trees formulates different chemical equations for each tree, giving Agarwood an almost humane trait.

8.AQUILARIA TREES
Agarwood is generally harvested when the trees are between five to ten years old; from this Agarwood is made into high value and premium products.
